Beginning therapeutic or sound-based work can raise important questions. The information below is offered to provide clarity and help you determine whether this practice is the right fit.
Initial consultations are 20–30 minute conversations designed to understand what brings you to this work, answer questions about the therapeutic process, and determine whether Oreka Sound is an appropriate fit. There is no obligation to continue following the consultation.
No musical experience or training is required. Music therapy and sound-based practices work with your natural capacity to respond to sound, rhythm, and creative process. The focus is on therapeutic goals, not performance or musical skill.
There is meaningful overlap between music therapy and sound-based sessions, and both may be offered individually or in group formats. Each supports nervous system regulation and emotional processing, but they differ in emphasis and structure.
Music therapy centers on active engagement with music. This may include improvisation, songwriting, receptive listening, or guided musical exploration. The focus is on creative expression, relational process, and clearly defined therapeutic goals that emerge through making or responding to music.
Sound-based sessions are structured as immersive listening experiences. Rather than active music-making, the emphasis is on experiencing sound, resonance, and frequency as a means of supporting regulation, sensory integration, and restorative presence.
Both approaches are grounded in therapeutic principles, engaging different pathways within the broader spectrum of sound-based work.
Oreka Sound is based in California. Psychotherapy services are provided via secure telehealth to residents of New York State in accordance with licensure regulations. Music therapy, sound-based sessions, and organizational programming may be offered in person or virtually, depending on setting and scope.
Oreka Sound operates as a private-pay practice and does not bill insurance directly. Upon request, a superbill can be provided for clients seeking potential out-of-network reimbursement. Reimbursement is determined by your individual insurance plan, and clients are responsible for verifying eligibility and coverage directly with their provider.
